Are you going to CES?

CES or International consumer electronics show is currently getting lot of negative air due to the product’s performance launched through it in last few years. CES which is the biggest consumer electronics show in the America sounds like an ideal launch pad for any new electronic gadget. CES has seen some of the most hyped products launched in it in the past. But as major players like HP and Microsoft have started moving away from it, show is gradually gaining a lot of negative vibes.

CES which is one of the biggest trade shows in USA also faces a challenge of launching any successful products and there is nothing much it can do about it. Gadget makers are gradually realizing that they don’t depend upon any more on CES to launch a product. In the recent years, some of the most successful consumer electronic products have not been launched in CES like Kindle, iPad etc. In 2009, Palm Inc’s webOS was one of the most anticipated product launch, it got good reviews also but failed to hit the sales figure. Later on when HP acquired Palm Inc, the product line itself was stopped.

Now there are more resources available anytime to reach to the customer. Product promotion and marketing can be done without any launch pad like CES, in fact CES hosts hundreds of products so when any big product is launched outside CES, its chances of getting all the light is higher than joining the crowd of CES.

CES which is going to have more than 27000 exhibitors is currently under the dark shadow of pessimism around it. It needs to come up with some new and innovative methods to showcase products in order to regain the company’s confidence. If major players like Microsoft and HP kept drifting away from it, then it will become very hard for CES to maintain its value.
