Is Google Chrome Slowing your System?

Is Google Chrome slowing your system? If you have noticed any kind of slowness while using Google Chrome then you can understand what I am talking about. As we know, Google Chrome is one of the favorite browsers in the world. Its market share has been consistently growing and though in terms of numbers it is still the number two browsers (31.23 % as per the data released by Statcounter for April 2011 to April 2012) in the world after Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. But the way it is moving up, it won’t be surprising if it surpasses Internet Explorer to become the world’s most used browser. It is simple without any graphics and useless stuff. It is fast and simple to use.

But there are few issues with it also. At least I have encountered them but I am not sure if others too feel same. I think it takes too much of system memory which in turn have impact on the laptop’s performance while using it continuously for long hours.  On the other hand, Mozilla doesn’t produce similar kind of effect on the system’s memory. I cannot claim that it is happening for all users and is consistent but I have encountered it consistently.

Recently in march 2012, one group of hackers was able to crack through Google Chrome and managed to hack it. It has not happened before, so cracks are gradually showing up.  I mean Google Chrome is good but not that good. It takes up memory and impact system’s performance. Though there is no evidence to suggest any serious security issue but news of Google Chrome getting hacked definitely create some doubts in the mind.

Google chrome has been my favorite browser since I started using but I have uninstalled it and now switched back to Mozilla because though Mozilla is slower to start, but once it is started, it is as good as Google Chrome with no other major side effects. I cannot comment upon its security but it is definitely light weight and takes comparatively much lesser memory leaving memory for other programs.

I think as Ram and processors are better in today’s machine so in general we don’t notice too much of difference. But if you work extensively on your machine and do a lot of multi-tasking with lots of applications running on your machine, then you need to check memory consumed by Google chrome. If it is happening for you also, then you may think about using some other browser. So, if you are working on other applications also then use some other browser and when you are only surfing internet, then you can use Google Chrome. Please share your thoughts and experiences on Google Chrome.
