Journey of internet through IPv6

Journey of internet through IPv6 is a long but never lasting journey of not only internet but also billions of lives across the world. We know that IPv6 is going to succeed IPv4. As per the expectations, IPv6 will enable far better usage of internet by many more people and devices. IPv6 is quite similar to IPv4 but quite advance in its application. It has been close to 30 years since the launch of internet but it seems as if it has existed since eternity. I don’t think it’s even possible for us to imagine our life without internet in today’s world.

It’s a long journey which will continue to evolve with many more IPv’s to come in the future but right now everyone is focusing upon IPv6. In the last decade, internet users have grown multiple folds and today we depend upon internet for most of our daily basis personal to professional activities. As a result, we were having shortage of IP addresses. Those of you who don’t know much about IP address, it is a numerical number/address assigned to each device connected to internet. Without it, you cannot perform any of internet based activity like emails or social networking.

Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is an organization which controls the allotment of IP address. Due to increase number of demand, it ran out of IP addresses. IPv4 support 32 bits of addresses. It is close to total of 4 billion IP address. The newer IPv6 will support 128 bit addresses which will result in many more IP addresses. IPv6 is expected to support much better data transmission and eventually will lead to better connectivity. Though there have been certain questions and apprehensions about security and privacy issues but they have addressed and whatever remaining will be handled by appropriate organization and authorities in future with the help of better technology.

IP address is like a house so now more houses will mean more space for accommodation and therefore better allocation. IPv6 is going to play the key role in the business as most of the new users will get IPv6. It is extremely important for businesses to adapt to this new pleasant change. June 6, 2012 is the world launch date for IPv6. Let move into the next phase of internet evolution which will take us in the future.
