2. Most people stay with the same insurance company for 15 or more years because they are comfortable with what they know or believe they get discounts for being a long-term policy holder. However, by shopping around every few years you could save some money. Your insurance company may have increased certain aspects of your coverage if they have changed their areas of risk.
3. If you have made any improvements to your home make sure you tell your insurance company. Storm windows, reinforcing your roof or shutters may decrease what you pay. If you plan on doing a renovation contact you insurance company to see if there are things you can add during the reno to decrease payments.
4. Your home insurance can be lowered by adding smoke detectors, alarm systems, or even a sprinkler above your stove. Although some may be expensive at first look into how much you could save in the longterm.
5. Asking never hurt anybody, simply ask your insurance company if they offer any discounts. Some may be for retired or over 55 years of age, if you have updated electrical or plumbing in your home, or even if you live close to a fire hydrant. You never know how you could save, so just ask!
