Cyrus Mistry is one of the biggest words in today’s Indian business community. There were not many in India who had known this name. Cyrus Pallonji Mistry is the son of an Irish Construction business magnate Pallonji Mistry. Cyrus Mistry born on 4 july 1968, has been appointed deputy chairman and chairman designate of Tata Group and Tata Sons which is the holding group.
Cyrus Mistry is the first non Indian person to head this Indian Conglomerate. Tata group is one of the biggest Indian groups which have gone beyond India and currently operating in many other countries. Tata Group stood at revenue of $ 83.3 billion as 2010-2011. So obviously news related to its new chairman appointment is always going to create storm.
Cyrus Mistry has got a huge legacy at Tata and it becomes even more important and highlighted as he is going to replace none other than Mr. Ratan Tata. Ratan Tata is a huge figure and he has steered Tata group through many ups and downs so there are high expectations from Cyrus Mistry. Prior to joing Tata Group, he has worked as a director on the board of several other companies like Shapoorji Pallonji & Co, Forbes Gokak, Afcons Infrastructure and United Motors India.
Mistry studied at the Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai, graduated from the Imperial College, London with a BE in civil engineering. He holds a master of science in management from the London Business School (LBS). He is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Cyrus Mistry’s grandfather bought shares in Tata group in 1930s and it currently stands close to 18 per cent.
Cyrus Mistry has been director of Tata Sons since September 1, 2006. He has served as a Director of Tata Elxsi Limited, from September 24, 1990 to October 26, 2009 and was a Director of Tata Power Co. Ltd until September 18, 2006 along with working with other employers before getting with Tata Group.
Ratan Tata is going to retire in 2012 and Cyrus Mistry will be taking charge from him.
