Similarly you can find blogs about very possible niche like fashion, business, investment, real estate and everything under sun, literally everything under sun.
I am not saying this description of “what is blog” is complete but it explains everything what a blog is.
Act of blog is blogging and person doing blogging is a blogger.
How to create a blog
As mentioned earlier, a blog is an online portal which requires an infrastructure to create it. Now you have got two options.
- Free blogs where infrastructure is provided by the service provider like wordpress, blogger etc. In this option, you won’t get your domain name like akhilendra.com or google.com rather, you will get something like abc.wordpress.com or def.blogger.com.
- Paid version i.e. self-hosted blogs where you acquire infrastructure to create it which include domain name, hosting and content management system. In this option, you will get your own unique domain name like akhilendra.com or google.com.
Primary reason why you see so many blog doing round in current world is that, setting up a blog is extremely economical and easy.
You don’t need any technical skills to create a blog.
You also don’t need to spend huge amount of money to create a blog.
Therefore you see lot of blogs floating around in current world where everybody is trying their luck.
Self-hosted blogs are meant for those bloggers who want to make serious money. So if you just want a blog for fun or sharing your personal thoughts then no need to invest any money in it. You can use blogger or wordpress to create free blogs.
But if you want to make money from blogging then you will need to invest some money, usually less than $100 are more than enough to start a premium blog.

There are many who are already making good money from their blog. My blog is self-sustained where it generate more money than it require.
But don’t be too greedy, money making blogs require considerable amount of efforts and time along with some investment.
So if you plan to make money out of blogging then you need to have a clear strategy with persistency and realistic expectations.
If you are here because you received some mail which stated that you will be making millions in couple of week than you have been misguided.
Blogging doesn’t mean quick money and don’t waste your time, efforts and money chasing some mirage.
I am not saying that you can’t make really good amount of money from blogging, I am just saying that it will take time, efforts and some money to begin with.
If you are ready for that than you can definitely make some serious money by blogging.
There are many established blogs which make huge amount of money from it but they have already gone through the initial cycle of setup.
